Charlie on Bob:

Bob Richards is one of the industry’s most awarded and respected leaders in content creation and talent development.  In the years we have worked together Bob has consistently built winning teams of diverse talent, unified by his strong creative vision. In my 20+ years working with Charlie Morgan, the best description I can use to define his management philosophy would be Servant Leadership.  While Charlie embodies all the qualities of a servant leader, he is also one of the most results driven executives you will work with.  And the results of that drive speak for themselves.  The organizations Charlie has led in radio and TV have been top performers in their industries in both ratings and revenue.  From serving as COO of the media team at the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway, home of the Indy 500, to leading some of radio's most iconic brands like Hot 97 in New York, Charlie achieves successful results combining his servant leadership with a "Good To Great" mentality.  His ability to identify talent, get that talent on the bus and get them in the right seats is second to none.  Charlie's successful track record resulted in him being handpicked by the CEO of Emmis Communications to lead turnaround efforts in the company's most important divisions.  He was also selected by the CEO of The Mutual Fund Store to consult their senior exectubive team on the turnaround of their marketing initiatives.

  • That collaboration creates the best results.  We do not have all of the answers.  But with over 60+ years of combined experience and a lifelong thirst for learning, we do know what many of the essential questions are.  In asking those questions, challenging the status quo and actively participating the discussions and debates, we work together to find the best solutions for each individual challenge.
     
  • Change done to you is frightening; Change done by you invigorates. Change is unavoidable.  When change is brought on by outside forces it can be paralyzing.  We embrace leading change instead of waiting for change.
     
  • Get the right people on the bus, and in the right seats.  Borrowing directly from Jim Collins in Good to Great, we know that every business is a people business and when you get the people right, meaning the right people in the right seats, the rest of the challenges are significantly more manageable.
     
  • Spirit and Intent matter.  Sometimes we get tripped up by what we do and lose focus on the why. We believe that if you are true to the spirit of a deal or action, signal your intentions and then deliver on those intentions, your work will produce the results you desire.
     
  • Servant Leadership produces the most rewarding culture and best results.  This means that you do not rely on positional power to achieve results.  You rely on relational power and those relationships require an investment by the leader.  This is a view that leaders, at our best, are coaches.  We customize and individualize our approach to best bring out the natural talents in those we lead.

  • Marketing and advertising strategies.  We have built our careers in media and have been a part of countless brand-building projects and marketing programs.  Unlike a traditional agency, we operate from the media side, and, as a result, can share insights and tactics to maximize your marketing and advertising investments.  In other words, we know what happens after the buy is placed and can provide the insights that will get the best returns.  
     
  • Strategic Planning.  In our years of organizational leadership, we have served as moderators for the creation of strategic and tactical plans built by the very teams who will implement and execute those plans to achieve agreed upon goals.  As we say “change done BY you is invigorating” and our approach to strategic plan creation is collaborative, energizing, and participatory and results in a roadmap to success for the team that they have a sense of ownership in and commitment to.

  • Talent recruitment.  Building the right team is absolutely the most critical step in achieving organizational success.  We have built great teams from scratch, grown good teams to greatness and overhauled weak teams turning them into top performers.  The keys are talent and fit.  We have learned the discipline of building recruitment profiles that identify the specific talents that will make a candidate successful and then recruiting to those talents.  But talent alone is not and adequate indicator.  Once the aright talents are identified, the person’s character and values must be a fit for the organization.  We can help your leadership team build talent-specific job descriptions and add resources to help screen for those talents.  Once candidates are identified, we will help you determine cultural fit and support you as you build a team that will achieve your goals.
     
  • Leadership Training and Coaching.  We have built formal mentoring programs in multiple organizations and served as coaches and mentors for many rising leaders.  This is the most gratifying of all the work we do.  It fulfills our mission as servant leaders and leaves a legacy for the future.
